Update: Following up on the success of New Moon
Posted: December 4th, 2009 | Author: RedCandle Research | Filed under: Andrew | Tags: Blogpulse, Box Office, New Moon, The Blind Side | No Comments »Blind Side made up quite a bit of ground Thanksgiving weekend; in box office sales, not in blog mentions. In the period of November 27-29, New Moon grossed $42,870,031 and Blind Side was hot on its heels with $40,111,364 [1]. But as this chart (generated on Blogpulse) indicates, New Moon continues to dominate the blogosphere:

On his blog Maximum Strength Mick, San Francisco Chronicle movie writer Mick Lasalle has an idea as to why Blind Side is doing so well:
“I think the reason is obvious: It’s a Sandra Bullock movie . . . and it’s a football movie. Get it? Women don’t want to go to football movies and men don’t want to go to Sandra Bullock movies, but each turned out to be willing to go to a Sandra Bullock movie that is also a football movie.” [2]
Of course it’s just a theory, but it’s a good reminder that the relationship between conversations and sales isn’t clear cut. However I suspect that New Moon will continue to make money (and dominate the blogosphere) long after sales for Blind Side have plateaued.
